Pottsware Yinggooo

Based in Yingge, Pottsware Yinggooo (新北市陶次瓦代代合作會) is a local association dedicated to fostering "community tourism," "mutual collaboration," and "heritage preservation." Centered around ceramics, Yingge is a town where an entire supply chain is located, from production to retail, making it an unique example in Taiwan, where industry and tourism are closely knitted. To parse the name of the association, "次瓦" is derived from the word "瓷" (ceramic) and symbolizes the new generation's commitment to solidifying the original tradition of ceramic culture through the spirits of iconoclasm, reinvention and collaboration; "代代" (generations) underscores the mission to pass down skills and knowledge from one generation to the next; "合作" (cooperation) signifies a shift of mindsets from competition to partnership and teamwork as the goal for Yingge's future development .

Description

In the past, Yingge thrived as a pottery firing town because of its natural resources and convenient railway transportation. The ceramic industry in Yingge gradually prospered, making it a major ceramic hub in Taiwan. Over the years, nevertheless, as issues emerge such as an aging population, labor migration, and increasing global competition, the glory days of the Yingge ceramic industry fades, and it is faced with a crisis of decline and talent shortage. The next generation of Yingge’s ceramic industry began to grapple with the challenge of revitalizing their heritage.

In 2023, the torchbearers of Yingge’s ceramic tradition joined forces and proudly present the "YINGGE OPEN HOUSE." Intending to showcase the inner workings of Yingge's ceramic supply chain, this festival builds a comprehensive immersive space poised to "spark innovations." Through factory tours, exclusive Old Street boutiques, on-site craftsmanship demonstrations, curated selections, a feast of Yingge's delicacies, and hands-on workshops, "YINGGE OPEN HOUSE" allows participants to witness and understand the technical prowess of Yingge. During the festival, Yingge’s Old Street is aligned with its cluster of factories, and the whole area becomes an experiential venue and guides the public, media, and professional procurers to grasp the operational know-how of the ceramic production in Yingge.
